Chee Khoon Chan

Research Associate, University of Malaya
Malaysia
Chee Khoon is an Independent Researcher affiliated with the University of Malaya. He is the principal investigator for a SIDA-funded comparative study of migrant workers’ health experiences in Malaysia, looking at their health and morbidity histories in relation to their working and living environments, their coping responses and vulnerabilities, and their access to, and use of, needed healthcare services. He is currently helping the Embassy of Nepal in Malaysia investigate sudden (cardiac?) deaths among young Nepali migrant workers. An invited plenary speaker at the 2nd Global Consultation on Migrant Health (21-23 Feburary, 2017, Colombo), he is also a member of People’s Health Movement and has contributed and reviewed chapters for various volumes of Global Health Watch (London, Zed Press). By participating in the DTP workshop, Chee Khoon hopes to network with migrants, their representative organisations, and local migrant advocates to understand their research needs for goal-oriented advocacy and activism, and to work with them to achieve these goals.
