Chit Chit Tun identifies as Karen and is currently working for the Australian Centre for Languages (ACL). As a bilingual teacher, Chit Chit Tun develops and implements teaching programs to meet the needs of adult migrants, many of whom have special needs as a result of the torture and trauma they have experienced as refugees. She addresses their settlement needs and introduces students to the Australian legal, education and health system. . Her work has exposed her to the plight and needs of refugees from all over the world which has enhanced her understanding of the big issues. She has supported in particular a number of women who have encountered gender related abuse. Chit Chit Tun has been a member of the All Young Burmese League (AYBL) for over 15 years. During this period she had participated in lobbying governments and represented the Burmese community at meetings with the Ethnic Affairs Minorities Commission and Migrant Resource Centres.
