Kasthury Shanthakumaran

Legal Officer, Center for Human Rights & Development (CHRD)
Sri Lanka
S.Kasthury has been a legal officer at CHRD’s Legal Aid Programme Unit for the past three years. She assists the legal coordinator and legal officers liaising with them regarding the progress of cases in order to maintain a database. She has been part of consultative meetings regarding litigations, legal clinics and human rights defenders workshops organized by the institution. She was a participant in the lawyers workshop organized by CHRD to sensitise young lawyers on taking up human rights litigations through a human rights based approach and by working closely with activists at grassroots level. As a future lawyer, she would like to learn more about international mechanisms and how they could be accessed when available local remedies fail to ensure justice. She hopes by attending DTP Training that she would gain more knowledge on international human rights law, international humanitarian law, International Criminal Court, EU Charter, African Charter etc. She also looks forward to sharing and learning from the experiences of fellow participants who are involved in similar work as activists and lawyers on a local and international level.
