Latheefa is a lawyer at Messrs Daim & Gamany, a public interest and human rights law firm in Malaysia, which handles cases involving detention without trial, the detention of asylum seekers and refugees, housing rights, police brutality, violation of civil liberties, unfair dismissals, non-compliance with collective agreements, union disputes and the rights of migrant workers. She has been involved with the Urgent Arrest Task Force (on ‘illegal’ public assembly cases), the Abolish ISA Movement (on abolishing detention without trial legislation – the Internal Security Act), the Coalition Against Privatisation of Healthcare Services in Malaysia, the Immigration Laws Reform Committee and the No-FTA People’s Coalition (against the Free Trade Agreement). Latheefa is also Assistant Secretary of the Malaysian Bar Council’s Legal Aid Centre, member of the Anti-FTA People’s Coalition and the Anti-Health Privatisation, Central Committee Member of the People Justice Party (Keadilan), and Secretariat Member of SUARAM. Latheefa is keen to use the DTP program to assist her to contribute to the review of privatisation projects and promote policies in line with human rights standards.
