Muhamad Ananto Setiawan

Head of Economic and Social Rights Advocacy Division, Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (KontraS)
Indonesia
Ananto’s work at KontraS involves using either existing national legal mechanisms or international advocacy to protect human rights and ensure that victims of human rights violations have access to redress. KontraS reports to state agencies and international human rights mechanisms, cases related to: forced evictions, land grabbing, torture and ill treatment, arbitrary detention, restrictions on access to information and freedom of expression, violation of Indigenous and labour rights and conflicts over natural resources. Ananto believes the DTP program would be an opportunity to gain knowledge and a wider perspective on advocacy strategies and also to build a human rights advocacy support network. He would value building skills in using UN human rights mechanisms and in the effective use of UN reports.
