At the time of attending the DTP program, Ganyaphak worked as the Legal Officer for the Human Rights Development Foundation. In this role, Ganyaphak provided legal counsel to workers in Chiang Mai, particularly those from ethnic Shan tribes in Nyanmar, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia and other countries, and helped workers obtain legal fights from government and private agencies. She also provided training to educated agricultural workers about human trafficking and forced labor for migrant workers representatives, including on basic human rights and provides outreach on labor issues in order to assist migrant workers. Her roles included contributing to research data, taking test cases and providing legal assistance to assist migrant workers. This program will help Ganyaphake and her organisation gain knowledge and access to international mechanisms or in the UN through other means. It will also provide relevant training on gender issues such as the right to safety from sexual harassment.
DTP acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land on which we work, the Bedegal people of the Eora Nation. We recognise their lands were never ceded, and we acknowledge their struggles for recognition and rights and pay our respects to the Elders – past, present – and the youth who are working towards a brighter tomorrow. This continent always was and always will be Aboriginal land.
